The Power of Knowing Means Genetic Peace of Mind

A PARENT WHO WANTED CONFIRMATION

My name is Grant Stinchfield and I am a father, a former college football player and a 4 Time Emmy Award winning investigator who has committed his life to informing the public about important issues.  When my 10 year old son, Wyatt, decided to play football, I like most parents was concerned about the risk.  I started researching head trauma from football and it's effect on children, teenagers and adults.  What I found amazed me.

There is growing evidence that this simple DNA test for a tiny gene called ApoE4 can offer parents a genetic peace of mind.  When I found out that athletes with two copies of the gene are statistically more at risk of concussions, I asked why aren't we testing for it?  The answer is sad.  I believe there are leagues, schools and administrators that simply don't want to know.  They would rather put the 15-25% of athletes who have this gene at a greater risk for fear of losing participants.

Here is what we know, just because you have the gene doesnt mean you will get a concussion, just as if you dont have it, doesnt mean you wont get a concussion.  It's about increased risk and length of recovery.

Evidence has shown those athletes with ApoE4 need more time to recover from a brain injury then athletes without the gene.  This may be the most important piece of information you can get from our test.  Not giving the brain time enough to recover increases the chance of long term negative effects on cognitive health.

This endeavor is to insure millions of athletes know their risk and recovery genetic profile.  If you have any questions at all feel free to email me directly at my personal email:

This test is a valuable tool for any one worried about the risk of contact sports

Being a carrier of the gene doesn't mean you can't play contact sports, but it might mean you simply need more time to recover from head trauma.  That is important information the athlete and his doctor need to know before you get back in the game.
